Sometimes, the hardest part of getting out and connecting with others is simply finding somewhere you feel comfortable enough to walk through the door.
For many people with disability, opportunities to socialise can come with barriers. Busy environments can feel overwhelming. Activities may be too structured. There can be pressure to participate, make conversation or fit in.
But connection shouldn't feel like another task on your support plan.
It should feel natural.
It should feel welcoming.
And most importantly, it should feel like you belong.
Connection is important for all of us
Feeling connected to other people can make a real difference to our wellbeing. Having somewhere to go, people to talk to and opportunities to share interests can help build confidence, friendships and a stronger sense of community.
For NDIS participants, social and community participation can also provide opportunities to develop everyday skills, try new experiences and become more confident making choices independently.
But meaningful connection doesn't always have to happen through a formal program or organised activity.
Sometimes it starts with a game of pool.
A movie.
A puzzle.
A conversation over a cup of coffee.
Or simply sitting somewhere comfortable and watching what is happening around you.
That's why we created The Pulse
The Pulse by Your Care Hub is a new social space designed to give people a relaxed place to connect, have fun and spend time in their community.
There isn't an expectation that you have to participate in everything.
You might come in with your support worker and play a game of pool. You might challenge someone to air hockey or table tennis. You could grab a board game, work on a puzzle, watch a movie or simply find a comfortable spot and relax.
And if things become a little overwhelming, we have a dedicated sensory room where you can step away, decompress and enjoy some quiet time.
The Pulse is about having choice.
Come as you are
One of the things we want to be different about The Pulse is that you don't need to be outgoing or confident to belong here.
You don't need to arrive knowing anyone.
You don't need to be good at anything.
And you don't have to stay for an entire session.
Come with your support worker, a friend or someone you trust. Have a look around. Play a game. Meet someone new. Or simply spend some time getting comfortable with the space.
Over time, familiar faces can become conversations, conversations can become friendships, and a new place can start to feel like somewhere you belong.
What's waiting at The Pulse?
Our space includes three multifunction games tables featuring pool, air hockey and table tennis, along with a growing collection of board games and puzzles.
We also have a dedicated sensory and movie room, giving you somewhere quieter to relax, decompress or settle in with a movie.
Throughout the year, we plan to introduce special activities and events too, creating even more reasons to get together and connect.
Opening this September
The Pulse will initially open Wednesday to Friday, with two sessions each day:
- Morning: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Afternoon: 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm
To celebrate our opening, entry during September will be just $10 at the door, increasing to $15 from October.
You can come along with your own support worker and decide how you'd like to spend your time.
Maybe this is your place
If you've been wanting to get out more, meet new people or simply find somewhere different to spend a few hours, we'd love you to give The Pulse a try.
You don't have to know what you're going to do when you arrive.
Just start by walking through the door.
Come for the games. Stay for the connection. Find your place at The Pulse.
The Pulse by Your Care Hub — a place to connect, belong and be yourself.
